Lonely Road Season 02, South America Episode 25 – VALLEYS, VOLCANOS & VERY BAD DRIVERS
Day 115–119 of my South America motorcycle adventure, and the Andes are putting on a show.
I ditch the luggage and ride the Hermoso Valley trails out of Las Leñas — stunning scenery, the occasional horse rider, and a driver who clearly attended the French Alpine School of Corner Etiquette. Then it's back down to Ruta 40 and north to Mendoza, with a stop at Pozo de Las Ánimas — the eerie Well of Souls sinkhole — along the way.
After a couple of days off in Mendoza sampling the food and abusing the air conditioning, I head west on Ruta 7 — one of South America's great mountain roads — all the way to the Chilean border and face-to-face with Aconcagua, the tallest mountain outside Asia. Plus a stop at the remarkable Puente del Inca on the way home.
